Next will be building a mailing list of one kind or another. There are several ways to build you list thru your own website or thru squeeze pages. When list building make sure your site is up to par. Be certain that your website maintains a professional appearance, virtually free of spelling and grammatical errors. Even after you have looked it over a dozen times, have another set of eyes view it. Make sure your site is full of excellent content, including images, and articles that reflect your brand. On your home page and near the top of the screen on the left hand side provide an area where visitors can sign up for free newsletters. Let the potential consumer know they can receive exclusive promotions for simply signing up. Like a free download of an ebook and I'm sure you will come across many of those in your ventures. Once you have them keep them wanting more.
Top Internet marketing gurus will tell you that the money is in your list. Once your prospects sign-up (or opt-in) and give you their email address they give you permission to send them other emails which can include information on your products, upcoming events and new services. Never take your list for granted and always treat the people behind it with respect. It goes without saying you should never, ever for any reason sell or rent their private information. Follow these 7 rules that I read and it kinda stuck on me:
1. To be irresistible your offer should be of very high value. It should be something you could sell or have sold in the past. Don't make the mistake of thinking a generic tip sheet that your prospects could find anywhere online will do the trick.
2. To have an irresistible offer focus on your prospects pain. This may sound negative but if you can figure out what keeps your prospects up at night and then provide a product which offers the solution you will have an irresistible offer. Find out the burning question of your target market and then answer it.
3. To be irresistible always keep your word and deliver what you say you will. Make sure that your offer gives what the title promises. Don't try the bait and switch and expect your prospects to trust you in the future. Remember, online clients must know, like and trust you before they will consider doing business with you. An offer that does not deliver on its promise does nothing for that trust factor.
4. To be irresistible you can bundle several different products together to add value. If you are just starting out in business and don't have a very large inventory of products to bundle together, think about a joint venture freebie. You and a colleague, in a complimentary field, can each add something to the bundle. Just be careful that the colleague is not in direct competition to you so you don't drive your own prospects away.
5. To be irresistible cover all your bases and offer the same product in many different forms. Some people learn better by reading a report while others prefer to listen to an audio while running errands in the car. Many people like to sit down and watch a video so if you include all 3 forms of the product you will have something for everyone and that raises the perceived value.
6. To be irresistible try using an image of your product. We are very visual shoppers so a picture of a book to click on for an eBook or a picture of a CD for an audio file goes a long way to raise the perceived value of an offer.
7. To be irresistible you need to spend as much time on your title as you do on the product itself. Copywriting for the web is a very specialized skill and for good reason, the best freebie in the world means nothing if no one ever sees it. If you get some basic training in this area it will serve you well. The title is the first thing your prospect sees so it should grab their attention and compel them to opt-in.
